Is there an answer for having what seems like the slowest dial up service around? I have verizon , its awful.?

I got verizon thinking it would be better than some I've had in the past ,its awful it takes forever to connect anywhere.I have a rural address thats only a couple of miles out of town its not an island in the back of beyond. Whats up with them?
